DIY Tips for Hanging Shelves

At Montgomery Solutions LLC, we take expert care to hang your shelves to remain sturdy and level as possible. I’m case you are the type that like to do things yourself, here are some tips for hanging shelves:
- Choose the right type of shelf for your needs. There are many different types of shelves available, including floating shelves, bracket shelves, and wall-mounted shelves. Make sure you choose the type that is best suited to your needs.
- Measure and mark the spot where you want to hang the shelf. Use a tape measure and a pencil to mark the spot on the wall where you want to hang the shelf. Make sure the spot is level and that it can support the weight of the shelf and any items you plan to put on it.
- Install the shelf brackets. Most shelves require brackets to be installed on the wall first. It is important to use the right type of anchors for the specific material your wall is made of (e.g. drywall, brick, plaster, etc.). Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installing the brackets. Make sure they are level and securely fastened to the wall.
- Attach the shelf to the brackets. Once the brackets are in place, you can attach the shelf to them according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Some shelves may have a lip on the back that fits over the brackets, while others may require screws or bolts to secure them in place.
- Load the shelf with items. Once the shelf is securely attached to the wall, you can begin loading it with items. Make sure to distribute the weight evenly and don’t overload the shelf, as this could cause it to become unstable or even fall off the wall.
- Check the shelf for stability. After you have loaded the shelf, it’s a good idea to give it a gentle push to make sure it is stable. If the shelf feels wobbly or unstable, try adjusting the brackets or adding additional support, such as attaching the shelf to studs in the wall.
